SUPPORT OF MHUSD AT SCCOE BOARD MEETING

We would like to thank all of the MHUSD educators, parents, and community members that attended last night’s SCCOE board meeting to support our students and neighborhood schools! There were between 275-300 supporters in the audience, and many gave passionate and eloquent speeches. This was a particular challenge as each speaker was only given 1 minute!

We want to give a huge thank you to Donna Ruebusch, Terri & David Craig, and Mo Davies for organizing all of the effort to provide dinner to our supporters! We are also very appreciative of the efforts of Jeanie Wallace, Gemma Abels, and Terri Eves-Knudsen whose leadership has been extraordinary! Gratitude is also extended to Superintendent Steve Betando, our District Office leadership and our supportive MHUSD board members who believe in our students, staff and schools! In addition, our MHFT building reps and officers have worked collaboratively with our administration to support the effort at all of the sites. A final special thank you to Mario Banuelos who has championed our cause and delivered over 600 on-line and over 700 hard copy signed petitions to the County Board that supported our schools. Go team!

The Santa Clara County board members commented that they had not seen such a united community in support of public education and neighborhood schools at their meetings. The next two SCCOE meetings are December 11 and January 15. It is likely that the two votes regarding the Rocketship and Navigator Charters will occur at one of those meetings. Look for more details soon.

If you did not get a chance to attend or speak at the county board meeting, please know that it is not too late to have your voice be heard. Please email the SCCOE board members in support of our students and neighborhood schools!
