At our general meeting, we will honor the above teachers and announce the Teacher of the Year that will represent our district at the Santa Clara County celebration this fall.

Election Results

Congratulations to our new officers for 2015-2017:
President, Gemma Abels
Vice President, Andrea Kusanovich
Vice President, Teresa Colbert
Vice President, Chris Mink
Secretary, Zann Yates
Treasurer, Lori Shoemaker

Thank you to everyone who was willing to step forward and run for one of these positions.

We would like to thank Terri Eves-Knudsen for the past four years of service as Treasurer! Her dedication and effort have kept our local in good
financial standing. This is a very important job that is complex and time-consuming, and Terri has done an excellent job!

LCAP Presentations

Last year, the district developed a three year plan that identified priorities for our district and students and how they were budgeted. They are in the process of evaluating the 2014-2015 implementation and adding the next year to the plan (for 2017-2018). They are sharing and asking for input from various stakeholder groups – school board, parents, DELAC, and our Executive Council. There will also be public hearings held later this spring at our MHUSD board meetings.

Negotiations Update

Please complete the online Negotiations Survey that was emailed to you as soon as possible. Our negotiations team is continuing to meet with the district team.\

Our next meeting is today from 3:45-6:45. The survey will guide our discussions and will remain open through April 30.

We will post survey results on our webpage: www.mhft.org

STRS Increase

Under the CALSTRS 2014 Funding Plan, signed by the Governor in June 2014, contribution rates from all parties – members, employers and the state – to the Defined Benefit Program will be increasing gradually over the next several years.
For the 2015-16 school year, increases are:

  • For teachers who entered into STRS before 2012, contributions will increase from 8.15 % to 9.2% of salary.
  • For teachers who entered into STRS after Jan. 1, 2013, contributions will increase from 8.15 to 8.56% of salary.
  • The district contribution will increase this year from 8.25 to 10.73%.

MHFT will host a workshop in the near future to discuss the changes to STRS and how they impact our members and our district.

Teachers at the Mic

Thank you to Paradise Valley for a great presentation at last night’s board meeting.

Next up, for the last presentation of the year:
Los Paseos May 12

This meeting will be held at Martin Murphy rather than the District Office. If you would like to participate, please contact your Building Rep. Otherwise, we encourage all staff members to show up and represent your school!
